Annual Crafts Fair is just around the corner!

I can't believe it myself but Labor Day Weekend is almost upon us.  Which means it is time for the biannual Crafts Fair!  This event is not your typical basement arts and crafts fair with plastic canvas pumpkins or fake flower wreaths, this is a wonderful event filled with over 300 talented vendors showcasing their goods.  The Crafts Fair is one of the largest events, besides the Ulster County Fair, the fairgrounds hosts every year.  There will be a Windsor Chair making demonstration, furniture and architectural displays, food tent, entertainment, a children's tent, craft supplies (hand-spun yarns, fabrics, leather goods, jewelry supplies and tools.) and so much more.

Please check out the website for further details and information on discount tickets.

Probably one of my favorite foodie events in the area.  This is one event I would go to while in college.  It seems to get better every year.  I think one of my favorite booths is the one that you can get the giant apple turnovers from, OMG so delicious!  There is also a business expo, arts and crafts section, wine and micor brew tents!!  I recommend getting a picnic table in the shade to maximize the day and of course prevent any unnecessary late summer burns.

$5 for adults (this includes parking)
Kids 12 and under are free!!

Next Weekend...

Well, besides the New Paltz side of the ridge getting invaded by college students and their parents, next weekend does have some potential for being a great weekend.  It's the time of year for the annual Ribfest at the Ulster County Fairgrounds.  I have never been but I am sure it can't be bad--- it involves delicisous ribs of all kinds.  If it is anything like the ribs at the Granary at Mohonk, I am sure I will be drooling and licking my fingertips.

If you need to escape the traffic and pseudo hippies than I recommend you head up to Hunter Mountain for the Celtic Fest.  A place for good times, good friends, and good beer!

For more information click on the link below.

If you go to either please send me your pictures I would love to post them and share them.

This Weekend..

Check out the German Fest this weekend at Hunter Mountain.  My hubby and his friends are going.  It is always a great time.  The weather is supposed to be beautiful.

Lake Awosting!

Lake Awosting! Have you ever been? I have lived in the area since fall of 1998 (eek!) and I went for the first time this past Sunday! All I have to say is I can't believe I waited this long. The lake is georgeous, they have lifeguards watching the water in the designated swim area, and it is really low key. Now you can't just drive up in your car, the lake is only accessible to the community by hiking, running, or biking in during the summer season. I don't recommend schelping your 5 year old on this journey unless you plan on putting them in a bike seat, backpack carry all (I am not a mom so I don't know what they are really called), or your very own shoulders or arms. It is approximatley 3.3 miles one way via carriage road. There is a foot path you can take as well.  There is one steep ascent but it is very nice on the return trip. Admisson onto Lake Minnewaska State Park is $8 per car and free after 4:00 p.m. If you arrive after 4 p.m. don't expect all the gates to be open they do limit access by cars to certain areas. If you do decide to visit the lake park in the lower parking lot. Weekends are traditionally busier, so find a time that best works for you.

Have fun exploring!
